GRAPHIC DESIGN, GARY NICHOLSON

Yes, more graphic design/typography. It’s well worth it.

Today presenting a guy who’s studying a BA at University of Cumbria. He’s young and talented. Nicholson works a lot to expand his portfolio, you can see that on his blog. His style is very easy but defined. Using simple ways to achieve awesome results.

His work ‘The Informer’ is very expressive, using a few basic colours and low budget paper he gets our attention rapidly. The typography of his redesigned newspaper is super effortless, he just let’s topics and articles flow and you just can’t resist to flip through.

On Gary’s account there’s loads to be found. Posters, logos, typeface, website layout etc.

Here we agree that YOUTH DOES IT again. And you know what? Nicholson is yet another junior who’s worth contacting for commissions.

GRAPHIC DESIGN, BECCA CHARLIER-MATTHEWS

She had the opportunity to study arts but not only. She did a BA in Japanese at University of Wisconsin. Pretty cool, right?

What made us notice Becca was her art work for a book cover. It’s a cut out. The entire book is illustrated that way. Personally, we think you should just check it out, there’s not much we can add about this project. It’s simply awesome.

Becca also likes her watercolours and uses them very wisely. If looking for inspiration in technique, we’re pretty sure you’ll find a lot in her portfolio and sketchbook.

Why not? Check out her site and her sketchbook linked there. IT’S A MUST.

ILLUSTRATION, BERKE DOGANOGLU

Today’s youth is an undergratuate at Sabanci University, Turkey.

As a school project Berke illustrated a Turkish nursery rhyme ‘Bir Berber’. In a unique way showing a lot of influence of the greatest cubistic artists, Picasso, Braque or Gris. The illustration seems very simple but there’s a catch to it. Doganoglu show’s his interest in the lately common trend of ‘unfinished’ paintings. No faces, no arms etc.

Apart from this illustration you can find more of his paintings on his deviant art site: berkedoganoglu.deviantart.com Also you can flick through his photography achievements. And for a start it seems quite promising.

Still, illustration and painting seem to be Berke’s strongest.

DO IT.

PHOTOGRAPHY, PATRYK PIETRO PIETRAS

Today presenting a young, free spirited and well good looking bloke from Zoliborz, Warsaw, Poland - Pietro.

He has been working as an assistant for a great photographer duo - Zuza Krajewska and Bartek Wieczorek, at their fashion, editorial and commercial shoots. He’s gained great knowledge at their side + he’s a BA student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan. Where he’s got the possibility of deepening his creativity.

Recently with a couple of friends Pietro has set up an AWESOME workshop called Suffit and they plan to have exhibitions there, all sorts of speeches by artists for artists and anyone else interested. Its a great interior, has a photography wall and is situated in the lovely backstreets of Suzina.

Patryk’s work is mainly conceptual. He’s got a great eye and beautiful esthetics. He works strictly in analogue and complains about the lack of film distributors, Kodak going bankrupt and hating the colours of Impossible Project’s polaroid films.

In his project ‘Light’ Pietras wants to show his perception of the materialization of light. Taking photos of his friends hidden under a ‘sheet of light’.

Also apart from checking out the sourced link to today’s post, check out his pietropietras.blogspot.com where as he calls it, updates his DON’TS.

We say DO.

PAINTING, LUCA DONOFRIO

A student at SVA. A New Yorker, born and bred.

Observing the streets, people, reactions and emotions Luca paints artworks. Most of them quite disturbing, stirring and thoughtful. Like ‘Study of a Winner’ where presenting a deformed, deteriorating face. As if it was a doll, empty and disconnected.

Donofrio has a technique of thick layers and splashes of oil on canvas. Experimenting with form, the 22 y/o artist attracts attention to a heavy and overwhelming style.

Reading light as if it was a moment away. Unfinished, discontinued images provoke thoughts, we as recipients need no more.

YOUTH DOES IT wants more, surely.

DRAWING, ANNE EMOND

Yes, 2 days in a row with drawing and illustration. Might seems a bit boring and repetitive. But trust me Anne Emond is worth it. How could I’ve noticed her just today?!

Emond’s illustrations bring back thoughts of Jean-Jacques Sempe and Quentin Blake. Her style is very cool and ideas are cynical and sarcastic. Thanks to studying art history she admits it broadened her mind on inspiration and supported her with knowledge about core artists.

The attention around Anne is huge. Her blog is full of great, hilarious mundane rituals and situations. It strikes you when you notice the same circumstances in a cosmopolitan, single life, the one many lead living in a large city.

Seriously, start following Emond + if anyone’s interested, she’s open for taking commissions.

Here’s her comiques.tumblr.com blog

DRAWING, MATT BERGBAUER

Matt Bergbauer, a very promising illustrator/painter living and working in Chicago. He graduated in 2009 with a BFA at MICA, Baltimore where he was born and raised.

Bergbauer took part in several exhibitions. Where in most of his works he portrays his family members in charcoal. His unique technique and way of distortion makes deformed and caricatural images serious, poignant and stirring.

He’s presented a great series of self-portraits in which he uses form and lighting to effectively challenge viewers. Matt has also done great commissioned work, family portraits in charcoal but also paint on canvas.

His awesome malfunction in imaging creates a great body of work which is consistent and stable.

Matt Bergbauer is yet another hopeful and propitious youth worth following.

Once again, YOUTH DOES IT!!

PHOTOGRAPHY, DOMINIK TARABANSKI

Ok, we’ve posted about his partner - Kasia Bielska a few posts ago. And now it’s time for Dominik.

His style is very light. Very profound lighting.

In his series ‘Size 36’ he shows people who are skinny and he tries to outcome their disabilities in society. Photographing his friends, models and others the effect is awesome.

It’s great to see how Tarabanski keeps his style and evolves it in many ways. In ‘Lightness’ he takes photos of places, things that bond him with his beloved Kasia.

No matter if it’s art photography or commercial Dominik loves to keep his portfolio intact.

On a daily basis, our youth works in I.T. and leads a highly notorious social life. Try to find him out somewhere in the clubs and bars of Cracow.

YOUTH DOES IT praises delicate imaging.
